Set in the densely populated business district of Medan - Indonesia, this house for a large family is a reinterpretation of the local 'shop house' typology that is mostly challenged by its long and narrow plot of land with limited natural lighting & air circulations internally. The massing of the house is divided into 2 wings with circulation corridor in between. By introducing an atrium at each end of the corridors, the newly formed voids allow deeper natural lighting penetration and air circulation / stack effects, which is then purged at the roof levels.
